Second Exchange through Chest line

I felt a little anxious on the way to the hospital early this morning after feeling so poorly yesterday.
Heparin is used as an anticoagulant in Plasmapheresis because it is essential to maintain the fluidity of extravascular blood during the exchange.  At Kings, they use Citrate but at Canterbury I will need to get used to Heparin.  The reasons behind them using Heparin is because they use a membrane filter machine, in time the membrane filter machine at Canterbury will allow the exchange to run a lot faster.
Plasma exchange on the PrismaFlex machine is done via plasma filtration.  Plasma is removed and pumped through the large pore membrane of the plasma filter while albumin is infused to replace the removed plasma.  The PrismaFlex machine has the ability to run a lot faster than the machines installed in the Apherisis Unit at Kings, therefore the team hope eventually to get a 6 bottle exchange down to an hour.

Tomorrow I have the third exchange of this week and will speak to the team about some antisickness while I am in this transition period with using the heparin.
