August was an exciting time, my little brother was getting married to the love of his life.
On one of many of our Saturday morning sibling catch ups for coffee, we had joked about the hospital stay and his wedding clashing and he told me that my health and my treatment was the most important. At this point in time, I was hiding from my brother and sister that I had become very poorly, exhausted and in desperate need of Plasma Exchange to give me some respite.
The day I went down to theatre for my first Vas Cath, my little brother was getting married, one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make was choosing one over the other but the decision was made slightly easier as my brother's wedding was made up of two parts, I was missing Part One but little did I know I would only just make Part Two and it would be a massive surprise for my family.
I underwent exchanges through the Vas Cath placed in my neck, they then on the ward carefully removed the Vas Cath, tiped my virtually head first with legs in the air in the bed to help stop the bleeding from the entry site and worked very hard with the help of Kim to get me home for a sleep and a change of clothes to get too my brothers wedding Part Two.
Kim and I arrived at the church, I was in a completely unplanned outfit, I felt sick, was exhausted, had a massive white dressing on my neck and looked I believed like shit but just wanted to see my brother on one of the happiest days of his life.
I snuck into the church and noticed my brother at the front of his church pacing up and down and the rest of my family nowhere else to be seen.
I softly called out to my brother that she has changed her mind and isn't coming, my brother slowly turned round, he came to me, we hugged and shared some private words and shared some tears.
This embrace with my brother, I will remember for the rest of my life, his face when he turned round, the private words and tears we shed together on such a special day mean the world to me.
I then went into hiding before the rest of my family arrived and treated each of them with a surprise as I was never expected to make it.
Seeing my brother so happy with his wife made the perfect ending to a beautiful August day. A honeymoon in France in August 2016, their first family home together in December 2016 and their first child due in late October 2017.
Can't read this without crying. So beautiful x
